Subliminal Dreams. . . is going to experience a big change in the coming weeks and this means there will be no more updates during this period. Keep checking back within the next fortnight to see what's in store...

MIDWAY FILES BANKRUPT - posted at 22:16 on 14/02/09 by Marko
With the likes of Free Radical and nearly every other games publisher and developer all suffering under the weight of financial decline, it comes as little surprise that the long-struggling Midway has finally declared itself bankrupt. Midway is blaming the decision Sumner Redstone selling all 87% (approx. $30 million worth) of his shares for a total of $100,000 in November.

All is not lost, however, as Free Radical's purchasing by Crytek has shown (see news below) and there is hope that if Midway can pay off the outstanding $240 million owed then there is a very real chance that they could be bought and/or resurrected. The chances of this are further strengthened due to the reported news that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe shipped 2 million copies whilst the slightly disappointing TNA: iMPACT game also shipped 1 million units.
Fingers crossed from this web-site that Midway pull it off and keep on giving us more MK games!

New video for you people - a mystery new Multimedia Fusion 2 title posted on YouTube by Chaos680, showing what appears to be a smart platform-adventure game. The video shows off the game's use of hack 'n' slash gameplay coupled with magic and acrobatic ariel moves through what appears to be a dungeon.
This is the only video posted on YouTube by Chaos680 and hopefully more footage will be available soon.

Here's something of interest to you gamers who aren't used to the classics - Good Old Games is a website dedicated to the supply of old PC games from the 1990's era, plus others slightly later on.
Some of the classics listed in their catalogue - and available for download when the fairly reasonable fee is paid - include Fallout and Fallout 2 (at $5.99 each), Kingpin: Life of Crime (a personal favourite!) and the sublime Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. Visit the site via the Links page now and pick yourself up a vintage piece of gaming history!

SENSOU GAMEPLAY - posted at 17:43 on 09/02/09 by Marko
Multimedia Fusion 2 is a cracking tool for making indie games - indeed we at Subliminal Dreams. . . are all big fans of its flexibility. However there is one genre that is often overlooked by it's users; RTS strategy games! Fortunately, m. collar may be the saviour of MMF2's RTS corner with this latest project, entitled Sensou.
The game certainly has a distinct and well realised atmosphere judging by the detailed landscape and high-quality musical score. The complexity of the A.I. in the video also points to it being a rather special game indeed. We'll be keeping a very close eye on this bad-boy...

THE DAILY CLICK: MINI GAME COMPO - posted at 20:56 on 07/02/09 by Marko
Another genius move by The Daily Click emerged this week - the mini-game competition! 24 games have been entered and the standard has been exceptional overall; some games have really stood out from the crowd and the Subliminal Dreams. . . vote goes to -Nick-'s superb Penguinz. Of course all of the entrants should be tried by everyone who gives a damn about gaming and kudos to all of those who stepped up and entered.

TRAILER: TF REVENGE OF THE FALLEN - posted at 17:04 on 06/02/09 by Marko
I stumbled upon this today - a teaser trailer for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen game. And 'teaser' is the word best used to describe this bad-boy as it does nothing but tantalise the tastebuds of everyone here at Subliminal Dreams. . . ! Enjoy the trailer and see what you think so far!

CRYTEK, HERO OF FREE RADICAL - posted at 17:51 on 05/02/09 by Marko
Boy news is slow these last few weeks! One really good piece to come out though is the acquisition of Free Radical design by Czech developers Crytek.
![]()
The move means that Free Radical will now be known as Crytek UK, whilst the possibility of Timesplitters 4 seeing the light of day again is vastly improved - great news all round!

TF: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN TRAILER - posted at 16:20 on 01/02/09 by Marko Sure, this has nothing to do with games as such, but it just has to be the most exciting thing related to anything that will ever happen today, including the Chelsea-Liverpool game this afternoon! Finally, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen can be seen by the world via this rather tasty looking trailer One question i have though is this: what the hell is that giant single-wheeled robot?! June can't come round soon enough for us at Subliminal Dreams. . .

Epic and cinematic in every way, the video will surely wet the appetite of even the most extreme Killzone critic. Here's hoping the game lives up to the hype because here at Subliminal Dreams. . . we sincerely hope so!

VIDEO REVIEW - BURGERTIME - posted at 20:23 on 29/01/09 by Marko Something a little different today; here is Sinistermoon's video review of Burgertime on the Intellivision. Sinistermoon's review style is very relaxed, informative and easy on the ears and is a joy to watch. Since my experience with games of this era is limited at best - and also the fact that i've never even played an Intellivision game at all! - i found this review very interesting indeed. Though i am all against copying games and game ideas already thought of, learning about retro games is useful when designing your own PC masterpieces! Enjoy the video and stay tuned for future reviews! WARNING: the video does contain some mild bad language!

DESKTOP DERBY - posted at 19:58 on 28/01/09 by Marko So here is a new video posted yesterday by W3r3w00f of his project, Desktop Wars. Not strictly a game (in fact it isn't really one at all!), Desktop Wars is best described as an interactive screen saver. Users can add or control either the red or blue side in a battle between a selection of unit types. For more details, click here to visit a projects page.

THE INTRO TO END ALL INTROS - posted at 19:35 on 22/01/09 by Marko Another video today, this time from the imminent release of Street Fighter IV on Playstation 3 and XBox 360. The video stars all of the World Warriors featured in the console versions and appears to be some kind of intro. Looking fantastic, us gamers will have just a month to wait before it is released during the last couple of weeks in February..... .... we can't wait!

LUCASARTS = KILL-JOYS! - posted at 17:26 on 21/01/09 by Marko In true Lucasarts fashion, they have pulled nearly every video of Battlefront III from YouTube. There could be two reasons for this, either the game is actually still in the process of being made or they are just plain kill-joys! Either way, here at Subliminal Dreams. . . we are just a little cheesed off! Fingers-crossed that the first reason is the real reason. May the force be with everyone...

MORE FREE RADICAL MISERY :( - posted at 20:15 on 19/01/09 by Marko More depressing news from the fall of Free Radical; a series of 'leaked' Battlefront III videos have recently surfaced on YouTube. Most have been filmed on a video camera from a T.V. screen, though some of the better quality ones have already been pulled from YouTube. Take a look below and see what you think of the game so far - fingers crossed that this game gets picked up by someone soon!

NEW VIDEO - MR ROBERTO - posted at 20:41 on 17/01/09 by Marko Everyone loves a good indie platformer, especially when it's more than the same old, same old Sonic/Mario clone. Mr Roberto from Monkeybusiness313 and Kisguri is a puzzle-platformer where players must use explosives in order to destroy walls, thus clearing paths for the enemy to walk through so that they fall down and out of the play area. The other interesting thing about Mr Roberto is that this video is seemingly of an old game engine. According to Monkeybusiness313, a new engine is in development but is not (as yet) polished enough to show to the masses. We can only wait in anticipation to see what improvements will be made...

BIBIN TAKES TOUREY CHAMPIONSHIP - posted at 21:23 on 14/01/09 by Marko The greatest Indie tournament ever has finally drawn to a close and Bibin is the winner! My Distraction was voted the best game over Chrilley's Vacilius X and Don Luciano's Breach Of Madness by 3 of the 4 judges and takes home the 1st prize of $150 - congratulations, Bibin! Keep your eyes on the Indie Downloads section this week for the addition of all 3 finalist's entries and click here to read the final decisions from the judges on all three games. And once again, a special shout-out to Peblo for organising the Tourey. With generous cash prizes for the top three places and a tournament that appealed to so many, Peblo really has pushed up the bar when it comes to organising indie game competitions. Bring on the next Tourey! ♦♦♦
STREET FIGHTER: THE MOVIE II - posted at 17:38 on 13/01/09 by Marko Holy-cow they are making a new live action Street Fighter film! Good news or bad news? It's coming anyway and it's called Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. On a positive note it looks like a serious attempt at a martial arts movie with a dark, gritty tone. On the other hand, Street Fighter is not a game known for its dark, gritty tones! And the last live action Street Fighter movie was rubbish! And there appears to be no sign of Ryu or Ken in the new film! What the hell?!?! Despite all of this, the film is due for release on the 27th February 2009, coinciding with the release that month of Street Fighter IV on XBox 360 and PS3. The cast includes Kristen Kreuk (of Smallville fame) as Chun Li, Neal McDonough as M. Bison and Robin Shou, jumping ship from Mortal Kombat (Lui Kang), as Gen. Other characters confirmed are Balrog, Vega and Nash. Visit the official movie webpage here.

SONY SHOW OFF AT CES 2009 - posted at 18:27 on 12/01/09 by Marko Off the back of the Playstation 3 trailing behind the XBox 360 and the unstoppable Wii, Sony showed off some very, very promising tech demos at this years Consumer Electronics Show. Called RealD, the demos of Gran Turismo 5 and Motorstorm 2 on display were being played using stereoscopic 3D technology, allowing the vehicles and scenery to literally pop-out in front of gamers wearing the special RealD glasses. The idea is to have each eye see the same image but from a slightly different angle - as eyes work in reality - and the brain then puts these images together making the image feel 3-dimensional. Although stereoscopic 3D images have been around for longer than anyone cares to know (if you're wondering, it was invented by Sir Charles Wheastone in 1840 - i know, that's before even the T.V. was invented!), it is an exceptionally exciting concept as it doesn't rely on the image being made up of red and blue (or any other two colours) images, allowing for ultra-realist graphics or something just more colourful and detailed. Just imagine Terminator 3: The Arcade Game in 3D!! ♦♦♦
THE TOUREY FINALISTS - posted at 21:04 on 10/01/09 by Marko Though later than promised, here are the last of the entries to Peblo's Tourey on The Daily Click. The judges are currently playing and scoring the three games and the scores should be out sometime this week. Bibin's effort was featured on Wednesday's news and is something worth playing indeed. The first of the other 2 finalists is Breach Of Madness, a survival horror game by Don Luciano. Played using a top-down view, Breach Of Madness features some eerie music and night-time lighting effects to create the sort of atmosphere Silent Hill would be proud of! Click here to download Breach Of Madness. Be sure to read the Read-me before playing. The final finalist is from Chrilley and is a top-down shooter called Vacilius X. With Anime graphics, highly polished presentation and music that is so easy on the ears, Vacilius X is a great example of the kind of high quality Japanese-style shooters that Multimedia Fusion 2 can produce, with the right talent of course! Download and play Vacilius X by clicking here. All the best to Bibin, Don Luciano and Chrilley in the final and a special thanks to Peblo for organising such a thrilling competition! JUNE 2009 WILL BE A SCREAM - posted at 17:53 on 08/01/09 by Marko Put it in your diary folks - Ghostbusters: the video game will finally be out in America on June 16 and in Europe on 19th June. The whole game was touch and go after being dropped by its publisher Activision not long ago but Atari have come up trumps and taken over the duties - and good job too, if the screenshots and videos are anything to go by! Written by the films original writers Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis, the game follows on from where the second film ended as players become the fifth Ghostbuster whilst the original cast reprise their roles as the other four. A third-person action game that is viewed over the shoulder, the team must travel the length of New York attempting to capture all the ghosts that are causing mayhem in the, including the first ghost featured in the original film; the library lady! And not only all that, the game will be realised alongside the 25th Anniversary re-release of the movies. Slime on, my son!

Expect the other two finalist's games tomorrow and Friday but for now distract yourself with My Distraction by watching the YouTube video above and by downloading the game after clicking here. ♦♦♦
